CHARACTER INFO
Character: Yuffie Kisaragi
Canon: Final Fantasy VII Remake, post Intergrade
Age: 16
Background Information: Wutai's greatest Ninja
Personality: Please do not exceed 1200 words total.
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
At a very first glance, Yuffie is a confident (read: cocky), boisterous young teenager who seems to know what she's doing in most aspects of life. Though that is quickly stripped away by her lack of worldly experience, even if she keeps up the facade of confidence. While she still is fairly confident in her actual skill, there is still so much that she needs to learn about actual strategies and even working with others - whether that's taking the role of leader or as a partner. This lack of experience is clearly the reason why Yuffie puts up this confident appearance to others, not wanting to be thought of a child in comparison to others with more experience.
She's also a very energetic individual with a slight flare for dramatics, mostly in how she decides to reveal herself and the speeches she makes up to introduce herself. So many of her movements in and out of battle have that extra pep in the step, which can also mean that she takes that one single misstep and ends up tripping over her own feet - though that is usually reserved for out of battle. This is often where her childish and mischievous side comes in, allowing her to get wrapped up in certain things like Fort Condor games or rushing in head-first into a dangerous situation when she could have used stealth.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
Yuffie's main drive is to restore the honor of Wutai, and take down the corporation that ruined them. She was brought up in a war-torn moment in history, when Shinra was bringing in soldiers and SOLDIERs in order to build one of their mako plants in Wutai. Even when she had no actual power to defeat them or hold them back, Yuffie was not afraid to approach one of them in an attempt to drive them off. While it didn't truly work, it has helped make that fire burn brighter in her. Now, she has teamed up with a group called Avalanche in order to sneak into Shinra HQ to find not only a way to take them down, but to ensure she has the strength and power to do so. Even though this unfortunately failed, the events that have happened there have only strengthened her resolve.
Knowing that Shinra is also responsible for dropping Plate 7 onto the slums below, Yuffie has set off into the greater wide world in search of strong individuals who can help her achieve her goal. Yes, she likes materia, but these are means to an end - helping her accomplish her goal of destroying Shinra and restoring her home. Does she want the strongest materia in her own hands? Yes. Does she enjoying having as much as she can possibly carry? Also yes. But she also doesn't want Shinra to have these "superweapon" materias, and believes that they are an essential key to helping her restore her homeland. Yuffie also wants everyone to see the truth about Shinra - that they are a corrupt organization who forces their will upon others through violence and manipulation. And if she can get a little revenge on Scarlet along the way for what happened to Sonon, then all the better.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Her lack of maturity continues to follow her in the Remake version, as she often mistakes certain adult things for something else or vice versa. Yuffie also doesn't own up to some of her own mistakes, nor do some of the people correct her on it when they should. Instead, most people tend to play into her mistakes instead of telling her that she's wrong so that Yuffie can learn and grow from it. Which isn't always a bad thing, but she does need it to gain that experience instead of thinking that she's right. Especially when it can lead to some very big mistakes or tragedies, ones that Yuffie can't come back from.
Yuffie, at some point, got involved with another Avalanche group that appears to have manipulated or used her in some way. What this means in Remake continuity, is anyone's guess so far (it could be her interaction in During Crisis or something else), only that it left Yuffie with a heap of distrust for Avalanche - and even she could see that this new Avalanche was much better and that she could trust them after spending such a short time with them. Her other, bigger and more recent regrets, all revolve around Sonon and being unable to do anything to prevent Shinra from dropping the Plate. Yuffie hates and regrets that he sacrificed himself to save her - that Sonon lost his sister to a Shinra machine. That Shinra constantly makes people suffer, not just Wutains, but even those right under their noses.
As of now, it is not currently a regret, but Yuffie has had a disagreement with her father that means she has a strong dislike of talking about him. This is most likely due to the new state of Wutai after the war and his response to it, that Yuffie has no love for. How she wants to restore its glory - being the cocky teenager that she is, while he has kept their heads down to avoid getting their people killed. Hopefully, this will be expanded more in Rebirth to give us actual details.
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Unlike original story Yuffie, she isn't quite as selfish and has more respect for others. While she does still want to collect as much materia as possible, Yuffie also wants people who can use it and help her bring down Shinra. She genuinely cares about others, easily befriending the people of Avalanche and hoping that they were okay after their base was discovered. Yuffie even went so far as to share Da-chao beans (a tasty snack from Wutai) with them shortly after meeting them, though laughed at them struggling to chew the tough treat.
She also doesn't have many ill-feelings towards anyone who simply lives in Midgar, especially after seeing how the people live in the slums. Instead, appearing more respectful to them - though still not afraid to give them nicknames. They are also people who are fighting to survive another day under Shinra's thumb, and not everyone has the strength to fight against them. Though, Yuffie would have words with anyone who actually, truly supported Shinra. In that case, she would not feel guilty over stealing from or fighting with them. When she was deep within Shinra, Yuffie actually felt bad for the soldiers who died at the hands of their little experiment, getting offended on behalf of the dead. She quickly got attached to Sonon, too, even if she hated being compared and viewed as his sister. Especially when he sacrificed himself for her so that Yuffie could escape and try to warn people about the Plate being dropped. Being there to not only witness it, but to know that she was too late, it left its mark on her heart.
Like in the original continuity, Yuffie continues to suffer from motion-sickness. Which is very entertaining because she gets sick upon trains, boats, and probably airships - but not from riding a chocobo or even her own movements. Considering she canonly gets tossed into the air by someone else, it seems this is more common when Yuffie doesn't have something to give her focus to completely. She tries to handle it maturely, so far, not wanting to be protected in this time of weakness and taking it on by herself.
Abilities & Inventory:
Yuffie is both a ranged and melee fighter, throwing her shuriken from a distance or using it like a sword. She doesn't need to rely on elemental materia in order to use the four main elements, nor does she need to have her weapon on hand to attack - it can be in an enemy. Switching between ranged and melee is a simple trick for her, and she's fast and light on her feet. She's great in the air, boosting herself into the air to hit high targets because Yuffie is short at 5'2".
Skills
✥ Thievery: physical melee attack mug, nabs items from enemies, must be close, but can be airborne to do it
Holding Shuriken (melee attacks)
✥ slashes forward
✥ slashes forward, spins weapon to trap them in multiple hits
✥ slashes forward, leaps in the air, smashes down
✥ hits the enemy, jumps away to create distance
✥ throws weapon, it stays to deal damage - she will retrieve it after a few seconds
Shuriken Thrown (ranged attacks)
✥ casts up to three spells with Ninjutsu, magic damage
✥ casts a single spell with Ninjutsu, creates a shockwave in a line, deals heavy magic damage (cannot hit too distant or aerial enemies)
Abilities
✥ Art of War: buffet enemy with blows, each following hit dealing more damage
✥ Windstorm: creates a gust of wind that damages enemies, then tosses them
✥ Elemental Ninjutsu: adds an element to her weapon (fire, ice, wind, lightning)
✥ Brumal Form: uses cloud of smoke to dodge enemies (looks like a moogle), can be used while airborne
✥ Banishment: A powerful attack that gets stronger after following other abilities, has three stages of damage dealing, elemental Ninjutsu can be added
Limit Break
✥ Bloodbath: a flurry of attacks that deal massive damage to a single enemy
Synergy
✥ This happens with Sonon, he teleports to her and follows her lead in fighting. This clearly won't happen without him in game, but I'll list them for any possible potential (maybe an eventual Sonon or with others). She could use some of her tricks with other people, such as standing on their weapon and being launched in the air at an opponent for a stronger attack.
✥ Synergized Art of War: They focus on a single target with repeated attacks, the finishing move doing a great deal of damage.
✥ Synergized Windstorm: This juggles weak enemies in a single spot with wind and basically is a superpowered stunning ability that can also do some damage.
✥ Limit Synch: Yuffie's Limit Break merges with Sonon's on a single target for super enhanced damage.
✥ Clothing
✥ Weapon: Steel Reaper
✥ Bag of Da-chao beans
✥ Wind Materia [Level 2: Aero/Aerora]
✥ Ice Materia [Level 2: Blizzard/Blizzara]
✥ Steal Materia [Level 1: Maxed]
✥ Ninja Cannonball Materia [Level 1: Maxed] (Yuffie leaps onto someone's weapon, and they launch her towards enemies, dealing damage - can be equipped to other person)
✥ Magnify Materia [Level 2: Effect reduced by 45%] (Expand range of linked materia)
✥ Ramuh Materia [Level 1: Maxed] (Summons an old man. Which one? Yes.)
✥ Yellow chocobo & riding gear (saddle & bridle/reins)

ARMADA SELECTION
Paladin. Yuffie might be around to steal everyone's materia, but she also has a strong sense of justice. She spent her younger years living through a war, seeing how that tore apart her home. While she has no love for Shinra and says she cares nothing for Midgar and its people, she still expresses worry and concern for the innocent citizens. She was there to witness the fall of the Plate, was saved by Sonon who died at the hands of a Shinra "project". It has steeled her determination to take down the corporation and put a stop to things like that. Justice for her and her people.
